ASAE Applauds Repeal of Nonprofit Employee Benefits Tax

WASHINGTON—ASAE and its Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) Coalition applaud Congress for repealing a section of the 2017 tax law that required associations and other tax-exempt organizations to pay UBIT on employee benefits such as parking and transportation. The provision to repeal the nonprofit tax was rolled into a massive, bipartisan year-end spending and tax package that House and Senate negotiators agreed to this week.

ASAE Foundation Announces Four Universities Receive Scholarly Research Grants

WASHINGTON—The ASAE Foundation names four academic institutions to receive research grants as part of the Scholarly Research in Association Management Grants Program (SRGP). The SRGP provides investigators with funds to conduct research on a cross-section of topics relevant to association and member-based organization management. Each recipient will receive up to a $7,500 grant and for this latest awards cycle, will begin on September 1 and lasts for one year.

ASAE Announces the 2019-2021 DELP Class

Coalition to Protect and Promote Association Health Plans Reacts to DC District Court Ruling on the Final AHP Regulations

The Coalition to Protect and Promote Association Health Plans (Coalition) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruling to invalidate a portion of the Department of Labor’s authority to issue its final association health plan (AHP) regulations.

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, a district court overturned the Department of Labor’s regulations governing Association Health Plans (AHPs). Assuming the regulations remain in effect while the appeals process is exhausted, most, if not all, organizations that have established an AHP of Jan. 1, 2019, along with those organizations that are planning for a Jan. 1, 2020 start date, will continue moving forward. This is because these organizations want to offer comprehensive health coverage at a reasonable cost to their members. The AHP regulations allow them to do that.

ASAE Supports Lankford, Coons, Walker, Suozzi Bills to Repeal UBIT on Nonprofit Employee Benefits

WASHINGTON – ASAE supports legislation introduced in the past few days by Sens. James Lankford (R-OK) and Chris Coons (D-DE), along with Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC) and Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) to repeal a provision in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that assesses a 21 percent tax on the value of so-called fringe benefits – such as free parking or mass transit assistance – that nonprofits provide to employees.

ASAE Foundation Announces Three Innovation Grants Program Award Recipients

WASHINGTON—The ASAE Foundation named three awardees for the 2019 Innovation Grants Program (IGP). Each grant recipient will receive $10,000, and they will be recognized during ASAE’s 2019 Great Ideas Conference, March 17-19, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO. These grants are funded through support from the SunTrust Foundation, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston L.L.P, GEICO, and Choose Chicago.


ASAE Launches Applications for DELP 2019-21 Class

WASHINGTON—ASAE has opened the call for association professionals to apply for the 2019–2021 class of the Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP). Deadline for submissions is Monday, March 11. The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau has been the exclusive sponsor of DELP since 2001.
