Digital Badging at EDUCAUSE: Building the Profession of Higher Education IT

The future of e-learning may lie in learners collecting and sharing small, electronic icons. These "digital badges" give associations and other adult-education providers a way to help learners mark their accomplishments in prove their educational attainment. A little more than a year in to EDUCAUSE's badging program, it has awarded more than 2,250 digital badges that have been viewed by more than 135,000 people. Here's how EDUCAUSE built their program.

EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association and the foremost community of IT leaders and professionals committed to advancing higher education. Membership, both U.S. and international, includes 1,800 colleges and universities, in addition to 300 corporations serving the higher education information technology market.
