Zachary Grays (he/him) has served the American Evaluation Association (AEA) since they came to Smithbucklin nearly 10 years ago. As their Membership and Operations Manager, Zachary is responsible for overseeing the successful day-to-day operations of AEA’s 5,000+ member organization, driving the execution of AEA’s key program initiatives, collaborating directly with AEA’s Board of Directors to implement policy based governance and board strategy, managing a number of working groups, and leading a team of 20+ association management professionals across 6+ distinct service units in service of AEA’s Ends Goals. Zachary contributes to AEA’s financial soundness, contributing to the appropriation of a $2M annual budget and identifying areas for resource development.

Zachary’s primary work efforts are focused on increasing member value through curated benefits and fostering the pipeline of diverse, emerging evaluators through leadership of AEA’s two prestigious diversity initiatives, Graduate Education Diversity Internship (GEDI) and Minority Serving Institution Fellowship (MSI). In 2021, Zachary established Smithbucklin’s first LGBTQIA+ Affinity Community and currently serves as Chair. Zachary also serves on Smithbucklin’s InCouncil, the advisory body accountable for forward movement on inclusiveness in Smithbucklin’s workplace. Before entering association management, Zachary served various financial institutions specializing in client and financial management services.

Zachary received his Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing in 2010 from Morehouse College. Zachary is currently working toward earning his Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential.
