Meet the Speakers

Suzanne Pine, FASAE, CAE 

Sue Pine, FASAE, CAE, Strategic Advisor – is a seasoned association professional and international speaker. Sue’s 40-year career has allowed her to work closely with a variety of associations, many managed by association management companies. 

Sue is a frequent speaker at ASAE, AMC Institute, and a variety of ASAE State Society meetings. Sue is an ASAE trained facilitator of the ASAE Certificate in Association Management. She is a subject matter expert on the practice of Foresight & AMC Best Practices and Accreditation program. 

As a Past Chair of the ASAE Research Committee (2008), Sue was actively involved in the “Designing Your Future” trends project. Sue also chaired the original ASAE ForesightWorks Advisory Group (2017). Sue is a huge fan of the ASAE Research Committee and strong advocate for the need to incorporate foresight as a leadership competency required by key leaders of association staff teams and volunteer leaders. Sue furthered her training by attending the University of Houston Certificate in Strategic Foresight program.

Kristine Metter, MS, CAE 

Kristine Metter, MS, CAE, has spent nearly three decades working with associations to advance their missions while adhering to strong business practices. She is currently president of Crystal Lake Partners, a consulting firm that helps association staff and volunteers embrace foresight, grow revenue, strengthen stakeholder experience, and design meaningful events. Her deep knowledge of strategy and operations gives her the unique ability to help associations imagine the possible and bring it to reality.  

Kristine became a foresight champion while co-chairing the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) ForesightWorks advisory committee. She advocates for foresight as a leadership competency–for volunteers and staff–by regularly speaking at association meetings and working closely with associations to embed foresight into their governance and operations. 

Prior to founding Crystal Lake Partners, Kristine held senior staff positions with America's Essential Hospitals, the Visiting Nurse Associations of America (VNAA), AcademyHealth, and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).  

Ms. Metter earned her CAE in 2005 and holds a BSBA in marketing from the University of Missouri and an MS in nonprofit management from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

      This session will cover the concept of foresight, its importance as a leadership competency, and its application in strategy, risk, learning, and innovation. Participants will also be introduced tothe ForesightWorks research, the siz domains, and the drivers of change.

      Learning Objectives:
      By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

      • Define foresight and understand its significance as a leadership competency.
      • Differentiate foresight from trends and recognize its structured process.
      • Identify the four application areas of foresight: strategy, risk, learning, and innovation.
      • Describe the domains and drivers of change covered in the ForesightWorks research.

      October 15, 2025, 2-3pm EST, Virtual

      Session 2: Building a Culture of Foresight

      This session willl guide participants through creating a sustainable foresight system, identifying champions, and securing buy-in from all levels. The session will also cover strategies for maintaining focus, leveraging existing priorities and activities, and capturing insights from future-focused discussions.

      Learning Objectives:
      By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

      • Create a sustainable foresigth system and identify key steps.
      • Secure buy-in from all levels and identify champions.
      • Maintain focus on foresight activities while leveraging existing priorities.
      • Capture and use insights from future-focused discussions.

      Session 3: Embedding Foresight into Strategy and Operations

      This session will guide participants through personal entry points to their foresight journey, using case studies and examples. The session will cover strategies for overcoming resistance, implementing foresight initiatives, using action briefs and appendices, and capturing insights from future-focused discussions.

      Learning Objectives:
      By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

      • Identify personal entry points to their foresight journey.
      • Use action briefs and appendices effectively.
      • Capture insights from future-focused discussion.
      • Overcome resistance to foresight initiatives.

      November 19, 2025, 2-3pm EST, Virtual

      Session 4: Foresight Planning and Implementation

      This session will include group discussions on work accomplished in the past 30 days, focusing on emerging partners and champions, embedding foresight into routines, and starting drip campaigns. The session will also explore strategies and potential barriers for the next six to nine months, and discuss resources used and what is missing.

      Learning Objectives:
      By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

      1. Discuss work accomplished in the past 30 days.
      2. Identify emerging partners and champions and embed foresight into routines.
      3. Explore strategies and barriers for the next six to nine months.
      4. Evaluate resources used and identify what is missing.
