Barbara Mitchell is a human resources and organization development consultant who is widely known as an expert in the areas of staffing, retention, leadership development, and a variety of other human resources related topics. She has experience in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors and has consulted to a variety of organizations including the National Institutes of Health, the American Psychological Association, SRA International, Marriott International, the American Society of Association Executives and the Society for Human Resource Management. Prior to co-founding The Millennium Group International, LLC (TMG) in 1998, Barbara served in senior human resources leadership positions with Marriott International and now serves as a Senior Advisor to TMG. Barbara’s book, The Essential Human Resources Handbook, co-authored with Sharon Armstrong, was published in July, 2008 by Career Press. She is completing work on a book titled, Finders Keepers—a Back to Basics Approach to Attracting and Retaining the Best and contributed to On Staffing—Advice and Perspective from HR Leaders and also to Cover Letters for Dummies. She recently served on the Society of Human Resource Management’s Special Expert Panel on Consulting and Outsourcing in recognition of her expertise and long service to the HR profession. Ms. Mitchell is a past President of the Employment Management Association, which was a professional emphasis group of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She is a past President of the Personnel and Industrial Relations Association (PIRA) of Los Angeles, the Leesburg/Greater Loudoun (VA) SHRM chapter and WTPF, the Forum for HR Professionals. She is a member of the Dulles SHRM chapter. Barbara is a frequent speaker on topics relating to recruitment, retention, generations at work, and many other topics. She has presented at many trade association conferences as well as at staffing and human resources conferences and meetings.
