ASAE Announces 2023 Individual Honors for Exceptional Leadership

WASHINGTON— ASAE today announced the three recipients of the Individual Honors for Exceptional Leadership which are bestowed upon professionals who have demonstrated exemplary support of ASAE, the association community and society at large.

The 2023 honorees include Mark Dorsey, FASAE, CAE, Chief Executive Officer, Construction Specifications Institute, who is recognized with this year’s Key Award; Rick Burt, CAE, Vice President, Membership and Volunteer Engagement, Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), who is honored with the Professional Performance Award; and Jefferson C. Glassie, FASAE, Partner, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, who is receiving the Academy of Leaders Award.

Each has made a powerful impact on ASAE, their associations, and the association community with their insight, leadership, volunteerism, and commitment to DEI and the profession,” said Rhea Steele, FASAE, CAE, Chief of Staff and VP of Strategy & Governance, School Nutrition Association, and chair of the 2023 Individual Honors Committee. “We are pleased to recognize their achievement with ASAE’s highest honor.”

The Key Award is presented to chief staff executives of associations who demonstrate exceptional qualities of leadership and a deep commitment to voluntary membership organizations. Mark Dorsey, FASAE, CAE, is the78th recipient of this award, and is a visionary, entrepreneurial, association leader. He is being recognized for service and compelling results in pursuit of the mission of the associations with which he’s worked, as well as service to the association community through ASAE Boards, committees, mentorship, and dozens of speaking engagements over a distinguished career spanning three decades. He is also a recipient of an ASAE Power of Associations Summit Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Snowsports Education Association and the Donald G. Balmer Citation for outstanding volunteer contributions to Lewis and Clark College.

The Professional Performance Award recognizes important contributions made by association executives who are at the top level in their organizations but do not serve in the role of CEO. Rick Burt, CAE, is a seasoned association leader with over two decades of experience in strengthening associations’ financial, marketing, and engagement activities. He is past chair of the ASAE Research Foundation Development Committee and a former ASAE Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP) Scholar, and recipient of the 2021 Farmhouse Fraternity Barnes Award and an Association Forum & USAE Forty Under 40 Award Honoree. He is the 49th recipient of the award.

The Academy of Leaders Award is given to consultants or industry partners who have demonstrated exemplary support of ASAE and the entire association community. Jefferson C. Glassie, FASAE, who is receiving the Academy of Leaders Award., is the 36th recipient of the award. He is a longtime leader in the field of association law and an enthusiastic instructor of association law to the community. He is past chair of the ASAE Legal Section and Legal Symposium.
