Staying Fit While on the Road
ASSOCIATIONS NOW, November/December 2013 Meetings

|Summary: How some hotels chains are keeping guests in top shape while they're away from home by offering new and unique workouts and fitness activities.||
Out-of-town meetings and conventions can often mess with attendees' healthy eating habits and workout routines. Luckily, hotels are making it easier for guests to burn calories when they're away from home. Case in point: The American Hotel & Lodging Association says that in 2012, 84 percent of hotels had fitness facilities. But if you're not a fan of the traditional hotel gym, here are other options to try.
Westin Hotels and Resorts. Book a signature WestinWORKOUT room, which comes with a treadmill or stationary bike, dumbbells, fitness DVDs, resistance bands, and stability balls. Or you can check out the RunWESTIN running program, where a running concierge leads guests on scenic runs, usually past the city's iconic landmarks. If you forgot to pack your running shoes or apparel, pay $5 and you can borrow New Balance running shoes (with disposable insoles) and apparel.
Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. The chain's StayFit program features YogaAway, a system that allows you to "order" a yoga workout from an in-room entertainment unit. Most of the hotels also have a fitness concierge who can help you get workout gear and give you maps with designated running and walking routes. Some can even provide GPS watches so you don't have to worry about getting lost.
Sheraton Hotels and Resorts. Ask the front desk for the complimentary Gym-in-a-Bag. You'll get a book packed with exercises, mat, resistance band, and foam roller. Once you have those, turn on your TV to check out on-demand fitness videos and online training programs from Core Performance.
