Conflict-of-Interest Policies, by Association Staff Size

ASSOCIATIONS NOW, October 2011 Intelligence

Summary: How many associations have a written conflict-of-interest policy? (Titled "Full Disclosure" in the print edition.)

How informed is your board and staff about conflicts of interest and the importance of disclosing them? According to the ASAE Foundation's Association 990 database, which tracks organizations that report a minimum of $200 in membership dues and at least one paid employee, a bare majority of associations (53 percent) have a written conflict-of-interest policy. As the graph at right shows, the size of an association's staff correlates to having such a written policy available.
