How informed is your board and staff about conflicts of interest and the importance of disclosing them? According to the ASAE Foundation's Association 990 database, which tracks organizations that report a minimum of $200 in membership dues and at least one paid employee, a bare majority of associations (53 percent) have a written conflict-of-interest policy. As the graph at right shows, the size of an association's staff correlates to having such a written policy available.
