I am in the process of "gently encouraging" my board to plan for CEO succession. Of course it's difficult for them, but if they plan for the "plan," it will be far less imposing whenever I determine to leave. We're taking it in stages; first a policy to do it, and then developing a CEO profile. Karen Conlon

This is a timely and important post. The Board and I are now embarking on the creation of a plan for our organization. I am pleased to see that ASAE is providing publications on this topic.

Excellent piece. It is unfortunate that most Boards do not take this issue seriously. Hopefully having an article like this published will add to the information available doing a search for executive transition.
