ASAE Research Foundation Virtual Workshop Series

Roadmap to Reinvention: Innovation to Drive Success—and Revenue

A guide to measure and grow your association’s business-innovation capacity
February 25-April 1, 2021

If 2020 was a year for experimenting out of necessity, 2021 could be a year for building sustainable and impactful new programs and services. After months of responding to pandemic-driven needs, association leaders have an opportunity to reinvent strategy and operations with mission-aligned business innovation.

This four-part web-workshop series builds on ASAE Research Foundation'sAdvancing Business-Venture Innovation by walking participants through a readiness assessment tool designed to identify key factors critical for business-venture success. In collaboration with other association leaders and change-makers, participants will use the tool to diagnose challenges and problems, understand the barriers to success, and develop pathways to action.

Participants will get the most out of the workshop series by attending all four sessions. Register above for the full four-part series.

Session 1: Advancing Business Innovation Capacity
Thursday, February 25, 2021
3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

This educational session will introduce participants to eight key factors critical for business-venture success and highlight how to use an assessment tool to diagnose the problems and challenges to achieving business-venture readiness--setting the stage for future workshop sessions.

Session 2: Agile Governance Workshop
Thursday, March 4, 2021
3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Historically, the number one barrier to innovation is the board risk aversion. This workshop session will focus on how to create an agile board by investigating the domains Operational Agility and Foresight Governance. The workshop is designed to diagnose problems and challenges, understand the barriers, develop pathways to action; participants will work in groups for maximum impact.

Session 3: Empower Diversity Workshop
Thursday, March 18, 2021
3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Fostering a culture that empowers diverse talent to lead innovation can be a challenge. This workshop investigates the domains Empowerment Culture and Diverse Talent to diagnose problems and challenges, understand the barriers, develop pathways to action; participants will work in groups for maximum impact.

Session 4: Ecosystem Digital Business Workshop
Thursday, April 1, 2021

3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Digital transformation offers the potential for associations to attract new ecosystem partners to create new business-innovation ventures that propel mission and revenue goals. This workshop investigates the domains Engaged Ecosystem and Digital Practices to diagnose problems and challenges, understand the barriers, develop pathways to action; participants will work in groups for maximum impact

Advancing Business-Venture Innovation   is a five-part resource that includes an overview of the research results, reports covering each of the eight capacity areas, and considerations and resources for charting change pathways. At the heart of the resources is a readiness assessment based on a maturity model validated by the research and originated by principal researcher Association Ventures. Applying the tool, association leaders can self-assess readiness against eight relevant business-venture-innovation capacities, or domains—including catalytic leadership and diverse talent—and compare themselves to peers represented in the study and best-practice references.
