Monica Sampson is an association executive with over 16 years in strategic leadership, change management, and innovation in a variety of health care and non-profit settings.
She has served the membership of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) for the past ten years. ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for more than 223,000 members and affiliates who are audiologists, speech-language pathologists, speech, language, and hearing scientists, audiology and speech-language pathology support personnel, and students.
In her current role, Monica provides transformational leadership related to continuing education, clinical policy and, resource generation to meet the needs of speech language pathologists in health care settings, and the patients and families that they serve. Monica’s work at ASHA also involves analyzing federal and state policies and trends that impact the day-to-day practice of speech-language pathologists and provides professional consultation and state-of-the-art information to ASHA staff, members, and external audiences.
Prior to joining ASHA, Monica was a researcher, clinical educator and speech-language pathologist in the Washington, D.C. area. She continues to serve as a consultant for policy and program development related to speech-language pathology and rehabilitation services nationally and internationally. In addition to her professional engagements, Monica also volunteers in a variety of roles within her community in initiatives related to mentorship, diversity in leadership, and healthcare equity and access.
Originally from Chennai, India, Monica completed her Bachelor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences from Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, and Master of Arts in Communicative Disorders from West Chester University. She went on to complete her Ph.D. in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland in 2015.
