Association Launches Its Own Health-Insurance and Benefits Marketplace

As healthcare exchanges are rolling out across the country, associations can play a role in connecting members and insurance carriers. The Connecticut Energy Marketers Association has done just that, launching a web-based marketplace for its member companies in October 2013.

In almost 30 years of being the CEO of two trade associations, I had run almost every type of insurance program there is: self-insured workers' compensation insurance, a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, the endorsement of a broker and to drive business there, or a small group of associations buying from a single carrier.
