Lessons From Sandy: Leading Your Association Through a Disaster

When "Superstorm" Sandy hit the East Coast in October 2012, the Craft & Hobby Association was one of many organizations that had to improvise support for its staff and members. CHA's executive director explains how they did it.

On Monday, October 29, 2012, "Superstorm" Sandy was bearing down on the Eastern Seaboard. Models were predicting that this was turning out to be a "perfect storm": It would build up for more than 300 miles at sea before making landfall at high tide with a full moon. My organization, the Craft & Hobby Association, was in Sandy's path, just north of where she was expected to make landfall in New Jersey.
