Tough, New Anti-Spam Law Coming to Canada

A closer look at what Canada's soon-to-be-introduced anti-spam law may mean for U.S.-based associations and marketers.

U.S.-based associations that are active in Canada need to be aware of a new anti-spam law, expected to be in force by late 2012. The new Canadian law, generally referred to as CASL, couples tough anti-spam measures with substantial statutory damages and a private right of action. The private right of action would allow plaintiffs to bring class-action lawsuits and seek millions of dollars in damages.
