Don't Stop Believing: Sustaining Member Interest During a Long-Term Advocacy Effort

Congressional bills are traditionally introduced and reintroduced over the course of a number of years before becoming law, which can lead to frustration and disinterest among association members. One way to combat this and keep members engaged is to teach them about the advocacy process.

According to the American Bar Association, only 4 percent of Congressional bills became law in 2009. For the 111th Congress (2009-2010), that rate dropped to 3 percent, and experts are estimating that the current 112th Congress will be even worse. ...
