Is your association prepared if your CEO moves on?
A new study shows that projected rates of executive turnover are high despite the recession, but that many boards are not prepared to select and support new leaders. Daring to Lead 2011, a study of 3,000 nonprofit executives conducted by the Meyer Foundation and CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, reveals eye-opening information about today's nonprofit leaders and how prepared their organizations are for their departures.
Although 67 percent of nonprofit CEOs say they expect to leave their jobs within the next five years, only 17 percent say their organizations have a documented succession plan in place. Even more startling: 10 percent of these CEOs have not given notice but say they are actively considering leaving.
