The CEO of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses on her favorite advice to new members, leadership inspiration, and more.
Corporations appear to be expanding efforts to partner with associations on charitable endeavors—one good example being the National Association of Hispanic Nurses' partnership with Huggies.
Executive Director and CEO Celia Trigo Besore, CAE, says NAHN was approached by Huggies to participate in Every Little Bottom, a diaper collection drive for impoverished parents.
The request resonated with members after they learned of a recent study that found that one out of three mothers (of which 20 percent were Hispanic) cannot afford diapers.
NAHN chapter drives and online donations through partner Amazon.com led to more than 10,500 diapers donated during the fall of 2010.
"We're very happy and proud," Besore says, noting that collaboration is the best part of her new CEO position. Other favorite things include the following:
Favorite business book: Association Law Handbook by Jerald A. Jacobs.
Favorite way to get people's attention: AHEM!
Favorite way to beat a cold: Chicken soup and a thick blanket.
Favorite advice to new members: "Now that you are a member, get actively involved!"
Favorite way to nurture a disgruntled member: Listening. Many times they just want someone to truly listen.
Favorite leadership inspiration: A former chair at a past association, Pam Petrow.
Favorite personal resolution: Exercise more!
