Ushma J. Suvarnakar has been working in the meetings industry for more than nine years. She is currently the director of meetings and conferences for the American Anthropological Association (AAA). She serves as the lead for the direction and guidance of the Association's annual meeting, special events, conferences and virtual seminars.

Prior to AAA, she was the annual meetings manager for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS)where she was responsible for the logistical planning of the association's largest annual conference of more than 8,500 attendees. Previous to AAPS, she was a meeting planner for the American Chemical Society (ACS). She was responsible for managing the content management system in which she handled the logistics for up to 150 different sessions. Prior to ACS, she was a meetings associate for the American Institute of Architects (AIA) where she negotiated contracts and handled the planning logistics for 20-30 committee meetings up to 100 attendees.

Ushma is an active member of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA). She was the 2013 national chair of PCMA’s Emerging Leaders Committee (ELC) and a member of the ELC since its inception in 2011. In 2014, she was awarded a PCMA Distinguished Emerging Leader Achievement Award. She also served on the PCMA Capital Chapter Scholarship Task Force.

Ushma received her Bachelor's in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, major in marketing and minor in international business. She later went on to receive an Event Management Certificate and a Master of Tourism Administration from the George Washington University. She also attained her Certified Meeting Professional certification in August 2014.
