Lane Velayo enters his third year with the Indiana Music Education Association (IMEA) as only its 2nd full time executive director. In his role, Lane has been charged with implementing IMEA’s ambitious strategic plan focused on making IMEA a stronger advocate for music education in the state of Indiana, while still focusing on quality programs for educators and Indiana learners alike. In his short tenure, Lane has seen a complete rebranding of the organization, including the launch of a modified name which better reflected the programs and services offered by IMEA. In addition, he has overseen the launch of a new Foundation arm and other marketing/partnership efforts meant to raise IMEA’s profile statewide.

Prior to joining IMEA, Lane spent 6 years with the Indiana Hotel & Lodging Association as its executive director helping work on issues affecting the industry. One of these highlights was helping in Indianapolis’ effort to host Super Bowl XLVI.

Lane is active in the community and in the profession. He is currently the immediate past president of the Indiana Society of Association Executives and in the last year of a 6-year tenure on ISAE’s Executive Committee. He is an active participant in the National Association for Music Education Association’s Council of State Executives and previously was an active member of the International Society of Hotel Association Executives – where he served 1 term as Conference Dean.

Lane is originally from Cincinnati Ohio where he graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors in Business Administration degree. Lane has held the Certified Association Executive (CAE) accreditation since 2008.
