Claudia Saad has had 14 years of experience in association management. She is the director of multicultural education for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Office of Multicultural Affairs. Claudia is responsible for the development and dissemination of educational resources that address the influence of cultural and linguistic diversity on professional practice in speech-language pathology and audiology. She provides professional consultation to ASHA staff on ways to appropriately infuse and incorporate multicultural issues into programs, products, and services. She also provides technical assistance and consultation with a goal of educating members on providing culturally competent services.

Within ASHA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, Claudia is the leading expert on bilingual issues impacting the professions. She has routinely made presentations on culturally competent clinical service delivery to numerous state speech-language-hearing associations and at national conferences. Additionally, Claudia served on the Advisory Board for Sesame Workshop New Beginnings where she advised on the authenticity of the scripts as they pertained to speech-language milestones in an educational DVD series.

Prior to joining ASHA, Claudia worked at Children’s Hospital’s Scottish Rite Center for Childhood Language Disorders in Washington, D.C. as a bilingual speech-language pathologist. Her areas of expertise included culturally appropriate assessment procedures, service delivery to multicultural populations, and bilingualism.

Claudia received her Bachelor’s degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Maryland, College Park.
