Barbara joined the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) as senior director, governance and executive affairs in July of 2007. Since joining APIC she has been instrumental in providing leadership, subject matter expertise and project management to the APIC executive office. Barbara serves as a staff liaison to the APIC Board of Directors. She also serves in a liaison capacity to the APIC Nominating & Awards Committee (NAC) where she is responsible for the management of the annual elections process and working with NAC to develop a robust leadership pipeline. In addition, she serves as liaison to the APIC Policy & Bylaws Committee, where she reviews board level association policies for relevancy and compliance with best practices. Barbara is a member of APIC’s Management and Governance Team. In recent years, Barbara has taken the lead in heading up APIC’s volunteer management program where she has been instrumental in coordinating efforts across the organization with regard to committee management, providing consistency, transparency and visibility for the volunteer program.

Prior to joining APIC, Barbara provided executive office management and support for several non-profit associations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, the National Propane Gas Association, the American Chemistry Council (formerly the Chemical Manufacturers Association), Savings & Community Bankers of America (formerly the U.S. League of Savings Institutions) and the American Bankers Association. At the American Chemistry Council, she also served as the manager of education programs where her efforts focused on a special member supported scholarship and awards program encouraging middle and high school students to pursue studies in the sciences and chemistry. Barbara has also worked as an administrative professional for several prominent Washington, DC law firms.

A lifelong resident of Maryland, Barbara attended the University of Maryland University College where she majored in political science. She is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and Board Source – the national association focused on good governance and best practices for nonprofit organizations. She has earned the ASAE Certificate in Association Management and the Board Source Certificate of Nonprofit Board Education. Having recently completed the ASAE CAE Kickoff course, she is currently studying for the Certified Association Executive (CAE) examination.
