Sharon Newport is the executive director for the Door Security and Safety Foundation and director of operations for DHI. As a leader in these two organizations for nearly 10 years, Sharon has successfully led the evolution of DHI’s membership experience to include a new corporate membership structure, five new certifications, and improved technologies. In addition, she guided a rebranding of DHI and its flagship publication, Door Security + Safety, while growing engagement.

During Sharon’s tenure at the foundation, she has created new strategic partnerships and education programs and increased net revenue. Sharon is proud of having launched the foundation’s first public relations campaign, Opening the Door to School Safety, which speaks out against the dangerous and unintended consequences of door barricade devices in schools and advocates for the expertise of door security and safety professionals. Sharon has also been featured as a regular contributor on change leadership by Association Trends, Association Chat, and Association Advisor.

Prior to her work for associations, Sharon lived in New York City and Los Angeles, where she produced an award-winning documentary film, reality television, and live events before moving back to her hometown in the Washington, DC area. Upon her return, she produced documentary television for the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and The History Channel.

Sharon received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the State University of New York at Purchase, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, and she earned an executive certificate in organizational consulting and change leadership from Georgetown University.
