A stepping stone to the CEO’s role, the COO’s job is built on the ability to manage day-to-day operations and execute against a long-term vision. Join the ASAE Executive Management Section Council for a three-part webinar series exploring what COOs do, the risks and challenges they are facing today, and how to develop the skills and experience necessary to take on this demanding, exciting role.

This online seminar series features facilitated audio content and conversations. Soon after registering, attendees will receive login information from Zoom. Participants will have access to the recorded session, reference materials, and more for up to 30 days following the program.

      Matthew Gertzog, FASAE, CAE

      Matthew Gertzog joined the American Society of Hematology (ASH) in March 2003 as its first Chief Operating Officer and was named Deputy Executive Director in June 2011. He is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of ASH, as well as working closely with the Executive Director in the strategic management of the organization. Mr. Gertzog has more than 25 years of experience in the non-profit sector. Prior to joining ASH, Mr. Gertzog spent sixteen years working for the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, where he served in several management roles and ultimately as its chief operating officer. He was awarded the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation in 1993 by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and was the 2008-09 national chair of the ASAE Healthcare Community Committee. In 2011, Mr. Gertzog was awarded the Professional Performance Award which is an annual leadership award bestowed by ASAE that recognizes invaluable contributions made by association executives who are at the top level within their organizations but are not CEOs. He was named a Fellow of the ASAE in 2013. He also currently serves as the chair of the Board of Directors of the Association Mutual Health Insurance Company (AMHIC.) Mr. Gertzog earned a bachelor's degree in international relations from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD and his master's degree in business administration, with a specialty in marketing, from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

      Jenifer Grady, MSLS, MBA, CAE

      Jenifer Grady, MSLS, MBA, CAE, is the first Chief Operating Officer of Greater Nashville REALTORS. She was formerly Executive Director of Tenn-Share, a statewide multi-type association of libraries. Tenn-Share helps Tennessee libraries deliver efficient, effective library services through group purchasing power and innovative resource sharing projects. Prior, Jenifer was Director of the American Library Association – Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA), which supports librarians, support staff and others who seek certification and who are proponents of pay equity. Jenifer attended Oberlin College, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in her home city of Cleveland, Ohio. Jenifer is a DELP Scholar who also earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE). She is Treasurer of the Tennessee Society of Association Executives (TNSAE). She has served on the Professional Practices Committee and CAE Task Force of the Association Forum of Chicagoland.

      Zack O. Wahlquist, CAE

      Zack Wahlquist is the Chief Operating Officer of the Chicago Association of Realtors (CAR). CAR is a local association of real estate professionals whose mission is to drive both Realtor business success and the economic development of Chicagoland communities. In his role, Zack oversees membership and member care, operations and human resources, information technology, and the association’s educational arm, Realtors Real Estate School. Prior to his work at CAR, Zack was the executive director of the Network for Change and Continuous Innovation (NCCI), a higher education association focused on strategic planning, process improvement, and innovation, and the director of education for the Association of College Unions International (ACUI). Zack has worked in association management since 2004, focusing his work on staff training and development, operational excellence, strategic planning, professional development, and board management. After finishing a bachelor’s degree in political science, Zack began his career as an operations manager for Gap Inc., Old Navy division. He moved to Bloomington, Ind. in 2004 to pursue a Master of Science degree in higher education and student affairs. He volunteers with ASAE, Association Forum, and local arts organizations.

      Heidi Weber, MBA, CAE is a seasoned association management strategist, growth catalyst, and change agent with a history of leading associations through transformation initiatives. Heidi is the Executive Director of Alpha Omega International Dental Society, a leading international dental organization comprising more than 100 chapters in ten countries. She is managing and successfully stabilizing operations, leading a suite of mission-critical initiatives to strengthen the organization's financial position, expanding its reach and impact, stem the loss of members, enhancing the membership's unique value proposition, and establishing an ROI-driven business model. Heidi holds a Master of Business Administration from Webster University and an undergraduate degree in political science from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.       Cancellation, Refund & Substitution Policy

      Programs priced at less than $100: ASAE will fully refund program registrations fees in full with notifications submitted to ASAE Registration via e-mail at ASAEservice@asaecenter.org. Refunds cannot be approved for no-shows. Substitutions are gladly accepted at any time. Badge sharing, splitting, and reprints are strictly prohibited.

      Event Cancellation or Postponement ASAE reserves exclusive right to modify, postpone/reschedule or cancel programs for any reason, including but not limited to emergency, inclement weather or other 'acts of God'. If there is an event cancellation, every attempt will be made to reschedule, and registration fees will be applied to the rescheduled event date. Any travel, lodging, or incidental expenses incurred related to a cancelled event cannot be refunded under any circumstances. If a cancelled event cannot be rescheduled, ASAE will determine an equitable basis for the refund of a portion or all of the registration fees, after due consideration of circumstances and expenditures.
