Associations have the unique ability to enhance the personal and professional lives of individuals in virtually every business sector. Because associations are indispensable to industries, professions, and society, it's vitally important that people who work in associations have a full understanding of their nature and history.

For those who have fewer than five years of experience in the field, the Certificate Program in Association Management is composed of five virtual programs designed to build a strong understanding of the fundamentals and core functions of association management:

      Lowell M. Aplebaum, FASAE, CAE

      Lowell Aplebaum, FASAE, CAE, CPF is the CEO and Strategy Catalyst of Vista Cova – a company that partners with organizations on strategic visioning and planning, creating stronger stakeholder connections, and reimagining value and engagement. Lowell frequently provides dynamic sessions to organizations – conducting deep-dive interviews and getting members and volunteers involved through experiential learning approaches. He is a member of the Research Committee and is a Past-Chair for the overseeing commission for the Certified Association Executive certification, and Chaired ASAE’s Task Force on CEO Pathways. He is the creator of a master-level learning series called Through the CEO Lens and Association Charrette – a co-creation retreat experience. His work on global efforts for associations has included experience across five continents, hundreds of volunteer groups, and all 50 states in the U.S.

      Peggy M. Hoffman, FASAE, CAE

      Peggy Hoffman is co-founder, president, and association manager of Mariner Management, which provides association management services to chapter and affiliate associations. Today, Mariner serves as the home to three organizations and also works with national organizations seeking to strengthen their components and volunteer management programs. Peggy held positions in membership, marketing, and communications for several different associations before starting Mariner. She has a B.A. in communications from the American University and is a graduate of the association management curriculum of the Institute for Organization Management at Notre Dame.

      Rick M. Burt, CAE

      Rick serves AWHONN as VP of Membership and Volunteer Engagement, leading the organization’s membership, customer service, and volunteer development efforts.. Rick brings more than seventeen years of professional association management experience. He is an accomplished nonprofit professional, with a comprehensive background in leadership development and membership services, including previous work at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity (PIKE). He is a 2016-2018 class of ASAE Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP) scholars. In 2018, Rick earned the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential and was recognized as one of Association Forum’s “Forty Under 40” professionals. He’s a long-time ASAE volunteer and currently serves on the CAE Exam Committee. Originally from Georgia, Rick holds a Master’s Degree in Executive Leadership from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, and a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.

      Trevor S. Mitchell, FASAE, CAE

      Trevor Mitchell, MBA, FASAE, CAE, CDP, is executive director at American Mensa, Ltd. As the Executive Director, of American Mensa, Ltd. provides leadership toward the achievement of the American Mensa’s mission, vision, strategy and annual goals and objectives. The Executive Director is responsible for the general, day-to-day administration of the affairs of the organization. The Executive Director serves as chief executive officer for staff and the chief administrative officer for the Board of Directors (the American Mensa Committee or AMC) and its subsidiary Foundation (Mensa Foundation), and is charged with implementing policies and programs that benefit the society. The Executive Director reports to the Chair of the AMC and works with the AMC in developing strategies which support the mission of American Mensa, developing and implementing the strategic goals and objectives of American Mensa, and enabling the AMC to effectively fulfill its governance function.

      Jamie Notter

      Jamie is an author and growth strategist at PROPEL, where he helps leaders integrate culture, strategy, and execution to achieve breakthrough performance and impact. He brings twenty-five years of experience to his work designing culture-driven businesses, and has specialized along the way in areas like conflict resolution and generations. Jamie is also the co-author of three books—Humanize, When Millennials Take Over, and The Non-Obvious Guide to Employee Engagement—and holds a Master’s in conflict resolution from George Mason and a certificate in Organization Development from Georgetown, where he serves as adjunct faculty.

  • Policies

    • Event Cancellation or Postponement ASAE reserves exclusive right to modify, postpone/reschedule or cancel programs for any reason, including but not limited to emergency, inclement weather or other 'acts of God'. If there is an event cancellation, every attempt will be made to reschedule, and registration fees will be applied to the rescheduled event date. Any travel, lodging, or incidental expenses incurred related to a cancelled event cannot be refunded under any circumstances. If a cancelled event cannot be rescheduled, ASAE will determine an equitable basis for the refund of a portion or all of the registration fees, after due consideration of circumstances and expenditures.

      Consent to Use of Photographic Images Registration and attendance at, or participation in, ASAE meetings and other activities constitutes an agreement by the registrant to the use and distribution of the registrant or attendees' image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproductions and audiotapes of such events and activities by ASAE and other third parties, including but not limited the host CVB.
