Timms, Heimans, and Fitzgerald White Named as Keynotes for 2019 ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition

May 9, 2019

WASHINGTON— ASAE announces co-authors of the bestselling book New Power, Jeremy Heimans, co-founder and CEO, Purpose, and Henry Timms, president and CEO, 92nd Street Y, as opening keynote speakers for the 2019 Annual Meeting & Exposition. Following a variety of other educational opportunities, singer, actor, and dancer, Alton Fitzgerald White, will bring a taste of Broadway as the closing keynote.

During the opening session, Heimans and Timms will discuss the battle balancing between old power and “The Future of New Power” as a defining feature of society and business in the coming years. They will lay out a simple framework for understanding the underlying dynamics at work and how power is really shifting, so association leaders can channel it through open and participatory driven membership strategies.

Closing keynote and six-time Broadway star, White, will wow attendees with his talented voice on the Annual Meeting stage while teaching critical lessons about “How to Align Your Passion With Your Purpose.” In addition to his moving and powerful vocals, he will explore the differences and similarities between passion and purpose, and help attendees examine the significance of identifying and tapping into both to find the energy needed to overcome obstacles.

“We are excited to provide attendees with the opportunity to learn from speakers of varying backgrounds,” said ASAE President & CEO John H. Graham IV, FASAE, CAE. “The diversity of experiences and perspectives will provide them with the tools to overcome challenges and achieve success at their individual organizations.”

During this year’s Annual Meeting, attendees can choose from over 100 education offerings from more than a dozen disciplines covering all career stages. Educational offerings will also include a daily series of 20-minute express talks on the expo hall floor, and dozens of 30-minute peer learning pop-up discussions in OpenSpace, a place where attendees can claim time and space to initiate discussions.

ASAE will help attendees identify content that aligns with core areas of interest by offering five curated career and knowledge pathways. Each pathway is comprised of one Masterclass and seven sessions. The pathways are: Achieving Global Success (hosted by Global Partners Korea Tourism Organization and Dubai Association Centre); Healthcare Associations (hosted by Strategic Partner Canada Business Events); CEO-Executive Directors (hosted by Strategic Partner Naylor Association Solutions); Senior Executives Aspiring to CEO; and Young Professionals as Future Leaders (hosted by Strategic Partner Experience Columbus).

On Saturday, August 10, ASAE will host a train the trainer workshop. The workshop will guide participants in how to translate complex ideas and data into compelling content and communicate solutions with confidence and clarity.

ASAE will also have several Game Changers speakers including: Joe DeLoss, of the Hot Chicken Takeover, Jeni Bauer, Founder and CEO, Jeni's Ice Creams, Nadya Okamoto of PERIOD. The Menstrual Movement, Brant Menswar of Rock Star Impact, Erica Dhawan of Cotential, and New York Times best-selling author of On the Edge, Alison Levine.

Associations touch all parts of everyday life and to put the Power of A into practice, ASAE will again be providing attendees opportunities to give back to the local community.

This year participants can donate their time to: Netcare Access, Maryhaven, CompDrug, the Reeb Avenue Center, and the Ohio Department of Veterans Affairs. Monetary donations will be directed to the Columbus Foundation’s Gift of Kindness Fund.

Early bird registration rates are available until May 10. To learn more about all of the education opportunities, registration, hotels, and events, visit the ASAE Annual Meeting website.
