ASAE Announces 2018 Sentinel, Association Political Leadership Awards
WASHINGTON—ASAE will present Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Rep. Scott Taylor (R-VA) with the 2018 Sentinel Award, and Wendy W. Kavanagh, CAE, president of the Georgia Society of Association Executives (GSAE), with ASAE’s Association Political Leadership Award. The awards will be presented during American Associations Day, March 21, at the ASAE Board Reception. American Associations Day is ASAE’s yearly fly-in to share the association industry’s powerful story with policymakers and their staffs in Washington, D.C.
“We are proud to present Representatives Dingell and Taylor with the Sentinel Award. They have been instrumental in continuing to educate Congress that all associations, regardless of membership structure, provide education to our workforce and economic growth to our economy as they move America forward every day,” said ASAE President and CEO John H. Graham IV, FASAE, CAE.
Throughout her career, Rep. Dingell has shown strong support of associations in Michigan and around the country. For more than 30 years, she worked for the General Motors (GM) Corporation where she was President of the GM Foundation and a senior executive responsible for public affairs.
ASAE is also honoring Taylor for his work to fight against LGBTQ discrimination in the Virginia House of Delegates and in Congress. Before joining Congress, Taylor served as a Navy SEAL in the United States and Latin America, and he was a sniper in Baghdad and Ramadi as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
As president, Kavanagh has incorporated advocacy into the work of GSAE and shared The Power of A messages with elected officials in Georgia and around the country.
“Wendy has worked tirelessly to ensure ASAE members in Georgia understand the issues, how they impact their community, and advocating at the local and national level. She has created a great culture with GSAE and sets an example for others around the country,” said Graham.
On March 21-22, hundreds of association professionals will take The Power of A message to the Hill as part of American Associations Day. To find out more, visit The Power of A website.
