ASAE Honors Congressmen Peter Roskam, Kurt Schrader with the 2017 Sentinel Award

WASHINGTON—During the American Association’s Day reception last night, ASAE presented the 2017 Sentinel Award to Representatives Peter Roskam (R-IL) and Kurt Schrader (D-OR). American Associations Day, March 15-16, is ASAE’s yearly fly-in for association professionals, where they share the association community’s powerful story with policymakers and their staffs in Washington, D.C.

“ASAE has worked closely with both Rep. Roskam and Schrader during the past year on issues of major concern for the association community. From tax reform to the DOL overtime rule, Congressman Roskam and Congressman Schrader have been strong supporters and understand the vital role associations play in their communities,” said ASAE President and CEO John H. Graham, IV, FASAE, CAE.

As the Ways & Means Tax Policy Chairman, Congressman Roskam has been an advocate for the association community in Illinois and around the country, as Congress looks to reform the tax code. Two years ago, Roskam received the Sentinel Award for his work to encourage face-to-face government attendance at association meetings.

Congressman Schrader was instrumental in forging a bipartisan compromise on the DOL overtime rule last year. Partnering with associations from around the country, Congressman Schrader conveyed the impact of this rule on the association community and worked toward a better solution.

Today, hundreds of association professionals will take The Power of A message to the
Hill as part of American Associations Day. To find out more, visit The Power of A website.
