WASHINGTON—Hosting its annual Power of A Week and legislative fly-in, March 13-19, ASAE and more than 500 members will take part in educating policymakers, the business community, and media about the critical role associations play in improving the economy and society.

“The association community has great stories to tell about how they are impacting humanity. Our members are coming together this week to educate, advocate and raise awareness with representatives on Capitol Hill,” said ASAE President and CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE. “The Power of A is not just an ASAE brand; it is our collective brand for the association community to use. It’s important for us to understand that the more we are viewed as a collective, cohesive sector, the more influence we will wield when Congress decides to take up issues that affect our community.”

Here is a list of Power of A Week events:

  • Wednesday, March 13: ASAE will facilitate a webinar for American Associations Day attendees to learn how to communicate the Power of A message at their meetings on Capitol Hill the following week. Directed especially at first time attendees, this webinar will serve as an overview of how to facilitate a successful meeting with a Member of Congress or staff, as well as how to talk about our public policy issues.
  • Thursday, March 14: ASAE, in partnership with Ogilvy Public Relations and the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF), will present joint research on best practices and effective strategies for advocating on Capitol Hill called, “In” Basket or Waste Basket: Where Do your Policy Talking Points Go? It will give associations’ insider knowledge about which communication tactics resonate with congressional staff.
  • Friday, March 15: ASAE will host a Twitter Chat to discuss American Associations Day and the Power of A message. Participants should use the hashtag #PWRAChat, and anyone can join the conversation about advocacy and associations.
  • Monday, March 18: American Associations Day 2013 education sessions and Board reception with Rep. Sam Farr (D-CA) receiving the Sentinel Award.
  • Tuesday, March 19: American Associations Day 2013 with members visiting Members of Congress and attending the American Associations Day Congressional Lunch.
