WASHINGTON— Celebrating 10 years of innovative education, ASAE’s Great Ideas Conference, March 10–12, provided 611 attendees the opportunity to learn how to make personal and professional connections from general session speakers Sally Hogshead, Thom Singer, and Simon Bailey. ASAE Foundation recognized the four Innovation Grant Program winners at this year's meeting which was held at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

During the Opening General Session, speaker Sally Hogshead, an international author and leading expert on the science of fascination, showed how attendees could leverage their defining trait professionally as well as recruit new members, increase member loyalty, and develop internal teams.

Throughout the two-and-half day conference, attendees participated in new learning opportunities including next generation learning, mobile sessions, and the Snap Learning Spot, which was sponsored by Business Events Canada and its partners.

This year, ASAE held a new one and a half day Executive Leadership Program called Innovating Your Association Toward a Sustainable Business Model, where executive staff teams explored strategic questions on how to develop relevant business models for the future. Fifty-eight leaders learned new ways to think strategically and how to apply it within their organizations. The session was led by Adam Hartung.

“This conference was very creative in how it offered over 40 educational sessions and engaged attendees through a variety of topics and innovative learning formats. We tried to appeal to all types of learning styles,” said ASAE President & CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE. “Attendees left the conference with dozens of new and practical ideas and networking strategies they can easily put into practice. It was one of the best conferences we have had, and attendees shared thoughts about the trends impacting our space and how we can continue to succeed.”

Attendees learned networking advice from Thom Singer, who was the conference catalyst. During the Closing General Session, Simon Bailey challenged attendees to shift their thinking 180 degrees and own the moment. He asked associations to embrace disruptive shifts, celebrate risk and failure, and realize it's a connection economy.

Next year’s conference will be at the Peabody hotel in Orlando, Florida from March 9–11, 2014. For more information about this year’s conference, visit Great Ideas website.
