WASHINGTON— Prior to the official opening of the 2013 Annual Meeting & Exposition, August 3-6, in Atlanta, the ASAE Board approved recommendations on the direction of important and on-going ASAE initiatives such as content management and distribution, evolving infrastructure requirements to support future programs and services, advances in its global agenda and opportunities, and furthering its advocacy efforts through the Power of A campaign. The board also approved the FY 14 Program of Work and budget that includes specific projects in all areas of ASAE and the ASAE Foundation.

ASAE and ASAE Foundation will conduct research looking at trends impacting associations including engaging membership models, trade shows, and international efforts.

One of the new research initiatives is the Global Management Series. ASAE and the ASAE Foundation are embarking on a multi-year, multi-phase exploration of Association Global Strategy and Operations. This is designed to provide the association community with the resources needed to expand into new markets, broaden the reach of membership, product, and service sales as well as enhancing the professions and industries served.

“ASAE is not only monitoring the different trends impacting associations, but they are also working on a variety of research projects and initiatives that will help better position our members on a global level,” said ASAE Chairman Joseph M. McGuire CAE, president of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. With the Power of A advocacy campaign, ASAE is continuing to follow issues that may have an affect on its members including tax reform like charity deductions, unrelated business income, and investment income.

“The initiatives discussed during the board meeting demonstrate the significant value ASAE has in influencing policies and educating policymakers and business and industry about the impact associations have in society. Over the next few years, ASAE is undertaking projects that will provide valuable resources to engage our members and create innovative processes,” said Arlene Pietranton, PhD, FASAE, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, who will become Chairman of the ASAE Board.

Board approved the plan of work and related budget for Fiscal Year 2014 including projects such as: Job Task Analysis, continuing the New Product Development and Innovation process as well as enhancing content and knowledge management information for its members.

The Job Task Analysis is being designed to obtain descriptive information about the functional areas of association management and skills needed to perform the job at an individual level. This program will support the development of a comprehensive Body of Knowledge for the association field.

The outgoing chairman of ASAE Joseph M. McGuire, CAE, the incoming chairman of ASAE, Arlene Pietranton, CAE, and ASAE President and CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE, are available for interviews.
