WASHINGTON — During ASAE Great Ideas Conference, March 25-27, 616 attendees gathered at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which is an eight percent increase from last year and it’s the largest Great Ideas Conference ever. The conference kicked-off with innovation leader John Kao at the opening general session speaker, and attendees heard from former CNN business anchor and writer Carmine Gallo to close out this year’s meeting.

ASAE introduced a variety of learning formats including the Executive Leadership Program on Innovation. The day and a half long learning experience challenged attendees to explore innovation and assess their organization’s current state as well as envision the future they hoped to create. The next generation learning track was well received and focused on new models for association education and how to create customized learning experiences for their members. In addition, Deep Dive sessions, half-day workshops, the Creativity Room, and Photo Sessions provided members an opportunity to discover new ideas.

“A theme that resonated during the conference was the need for collaboration, which I think is critical for associations to engage in because it will help us move our associations forward,” said ASAE President and CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE. “Great Ideas is a unique opportunity for members’ to delve deep into issues like innovation, new learning styles and structures that will engage members, and provide insight on how to remain relevant in a changing environment. This year’s increase in attendance illustrates how important these issues are in our community and the need to continually explore new ideas.”

As Opening Speaker, Kao spoke about innovation and one of the keys for organizations to adopt is "the beginner's mind" attitude that is free of preconceptions. He showed attendees through music and words on how their processes can be observed, replicated, taught and managed.

During the Closing General Session, Gallo shared seven principles of new, creative ways for associations to succeed. He also discussed how businesses are leveraging new mobile marketing tools to attract new customers, engaging current ones, and extending their brand to an entirely new audience.

Next year, ASAE Great Ideas Conference will celebrate its 10th Anniversary, March 24-26, at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando. For more information, visit Great Ideas.
