Exam Format

The CAE exam consists of 200 multiple-choice items that are divided into two parts with a scheduled 15-minute break between parts 1 and 2. Each part of the examination contains 100 questions. You will have a TOTAL of 4 hours to complete part 1 and part 2 of the exam.

You will review and answer all questions in part 1, then click “submit exam” to submit your answers. Clicking the “submit exam” button will only submit part 1 of your exam. Once part 1 has been submitted, you cannot go back to any of these items. You may then take a break of no more than 15 minutes before beginning part 2 of the exam.

You can use any portion of the 4 hours for part 1 of the exam. The time remaining is available to complete part 2. For example, if you use 2.5 hours on part 1 of the exam, you will have 1.5 hours to complete part 2 of the exam. Please be sure to allocate adequate time to complete both parts.

The CAE exam will be given on Meazure Learning’s PASS system. ASAE encourages candidates to take a sample test to familiarize themselves with the system before exam day.

An online notes area is available to use during the CAE exam, for candidates testing at centers and those using the LRP option.
