Connect With Congress
ASSOCIATIONS NOW, February 2012 Community now
|Summary: Learn about The Power of A Week and what it can do for your association.||
ASAE will host its second annual The Power of A Week next month, highlighted by American Associations Day 2012 March 14-15, the only legislative fly-in where association professionals can connect with congressional offices to discuss important issues from healthcare reform to tax reform to nonprofit governance. This opportunity allows association executives and their staffs to create connections with policymakers that will advance both the association industry and their own organizations.
In recent years, associations have achieved many legislative successes: repealing the 1099 requirement, promoting association meetings as economic drivers, including nonprofits in a small-employer tax credit, and protecting charitable deductions. Those successes can be attributed to the lasting connections association executives made with members of Congress.
The event is open to any association executive, staff member, or leadership volunteer who is passionate about association issues and wants to make a difference, as well as meet and network with fellow advocates from across the country. Registration is free, and ASAE will offer scholarships of up to $300 to reimburse travel costs for out-of-town attendees if they visit their members of Congress.

Why is The Power of A Week important?
"In addition to congressional meetings, the week provides a variety of events to emphasize the positive message of The Power of A campaign, which highlights how tens of thousands of associations mobilize millions to enrich lives and advance industries and economies across the country and around the world."
—Kris Cook, CAE, executive director, National Affordable Housing Management Association
What can it do for my association?
"The public misperception of associations is driving actions in the legislature and the executive branch that undermine the power of associations to advance society. The Power of A Week is your chance to address that trend head on. Bring your issues into focus, and take your message to the Hill in a uniquely effective way."
—Mark G. Golden, FASAE, CAE, executive director and CEO, National Court Reporters Association
