With the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama, the world’s eyes are upon America to see whether it will respond to the 44th President’s National Call for Service while simultaneously addressing the country’s economic downturn.
Thanks to the momentum and early efforts of our sector’s young social responsibility movement, the reply of many association/nonprofit leaders can be, “We already have been—and we’ve got much more in the works!”
“The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our gross domestic product, but on the reach of our prosperity, on the ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart—not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good,” Obama said in his inaugural speech to a beleaguered but optimistic nation. An encouraging array of organizational leaders understand that and have been announcing tremendously exciting new programs and initiatives that offer their members a chance to serve their communities and the world in entirely new ways.
