Advocacy & Issues: Your Voice on Capitol Hill
Advocating for our members and promoting the value of the association profession to legislators and policymakers is an important priority for the American Society of Association Executives. To do this, we address legislative and regulatory issues that affect the nonprofit and association communities, as well as the association profession. We also strive to keep our members informed about Washington’s legislative and regulatory activities through action alerts, issue briefs, and our weekly Inroads e-newsletter.
Associations can join ASAE and show how they creative positive change in America and the world through the Power of A campaign.
Association Advocates: Power in Numbers
ASAE's grassroots network supports the association community in the legislative process by promoting legislation that will have a positive impact on the profession. ASAE advocates call, e-mail, write, and meet with their Members of Congress on behalf of the association community. Members of the ASAE grassroots network also participate in American Associations Day, the only legislative fly-in for the association community. American Associations Day prepares association professionals to visit Capitol Hill and educate their Congressional delegation on policy issues important to all associations, like health care implementation, tax reform, and nonprofit governance.
ASAE Grassroots: Communicating with Legislators
The American Society of Association Executives’ Public Policy Division maintains a website that involves our members directly in the political process. This site, www.capwiz.com/asae/home, enables ASAE Advocates across the country to communicate directly with their elected officials, by sending tailored e-mails on issues of importance for the association community.
Other resources offered at the site include an online Congressional Directory with photos, bios, committee assignments and staff members; a Congressional ZIP code matching service; and a daily schedule of Congressional events and committee hearings as well as tracking voting records on association issues for all member of Congress.
Inroads: Staying Informed
Inroads is a weekly electronic newsletter on national, state, and regional public policy and legal issues of importance to association professionals and their industry partners. Inroads is your source for the issues affecting all associations this week. You can subcribe by clicking the button below:
ASAE Political Action Committee: Taking Political Action
ASAE has a political action committee, APAC.
