Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

November 2, 2012

WASHINGTON — ASAE would like to extend our thoughts to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy. Although ASAE was not impacted directly, our staff and members have felt the impact in different ways. If you would like to donate or give back to your local community, many associations, nonprofits, and companies are helping with the relief effort.

Here's a list of several groups aiding those involved in the recent events:

  • Red Cross is accepting donations for the relief efforts by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, visit www.redcross.org, or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to someone's local Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.
  • Salvation Army is taking contributions online.
  • People can text SANDY to 80888 to make a $10 donation to be evenly distributed among the American Red Cross, AmeriCares and the Salvation Army.
  • Associations Now wrote a story highlighting how associations are helping in the recovery effort.
  • AARP Foundation has established a relief fund to support victims in the U.S. devastated by Hurricane Sandy. AARP and its affiliates will match contributions dollar-for-dollar up to $500,000, assuring up to $1 million in aid. The matching program will be administered through AARP Foundation. To donate to the relief fund, please go to: www.aarp.org/disasterrelief.
  • Architecture for Humanity and their chapters are partnering with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to mobilize its teams and start planning long term reconstruction efforts ahead.
